Last fall I moved out of my teeny tiny mouse house that I had been living in for six years and moved into a much larger space, which has proven to be the upgrade of the century.

I loved my little home (especially the living alone part) and truly didn’t mind how small it was. It was a classic San Francisco situation; an in-law someone had built onto their home with what was technically two bedrooms. Those rooms were incredibly tiny, but they were all mine.

However, when the opportunity presented itself for me to move in with some friends and into a bedroom that is pretty much the same size as my entire old apartment, I had to take it.

I now have three roommates which has definitely been an adjustment but it is 100% worth it because I live in a real f*cking house you guys. With a giant bedroom and my own bathroom and laundry and a garage and a backyard. And I’m paying less than I was for my old place. It’s a win-win.

I’ve been having the time of my life hosting friends for dinner and dreaming up what I want to do with this space. I have always loved making things look pretty in my home and can’t wait to finish decorating this new one. It is, however, a bit daunting as there is a lot of space to cover.

I wanted to share what I’m working with currently, what my ideas are and where I’m getting some design inspo (hello Pinterest!).

This is another very San Francisco renting situation in that there have been a ton of previous tenants and a lot of the furniture that is here is from people who have come and gone over the years. It’s not very cohesive, a lot of it is really old and worn down and overall the place just needs a little facelift.

Here is what my new home looks like, what I’ve done with it so far and what I’d like to do with it over the next few months!

MY LIVING ROOM & DINING ROOM

This space is pretty huge by SF standards and is what truly makes this the best party house. There’s a ton of space for entertaining. This also means I have a lot to do to make it look less empty.

The two couches and chairs, rugs, dining room table and chairs, lamp, and wooden glassware shelving were all here when I moved in. They’re from many many roommates of the past and are just a part of the house. I do NOT love the couches at all. They’re not particularly comfortable and definitely not very cute at all (I believe I have used the word “heinous” in regards to the white one) but that will be a big purchase I’ll make down the line. For now, I tried to make them more inviting with fluffy pillows!

What I would love to do in the short term is get a large round mirror to hang above the fireplace, move the three floral pieces to above the chairs in the corner and add some art above the white couch. I recently got this cute coffee table from Wayfair that really helped pull the space together!

I would love to get a second white table to put next to the one that’s already against this long ass wall so it looks more proportionate. Or just find a longer piece. I have some more decor styling to do for the one that’s there now but I do like how it’s coming along. If I were to get another table I would want to get another large art piece of the same size to place next to the one that’s there now.

I am planning on getting some cute cushions to put on top of this makeshift shoe bench and will be hanging a wooden coat rack above so our guests have a cozy place to put their shoes and jackets when they come over.

I was so happy to replace the old carpet under the dining room table because it had simply seen better days. This new ombre rug from Wayfair is so gorgeous! I also am planning on replacing these old wooden dining room chairs that are falling apart.

The final thing I want to do in here is plant it the eff up! Plants make a space so much more inviting so I can’t wait to get some greenery in here.

MY KITCHEN

I don’t plan on doing too much in this room (I already added some curtains) but I would really love to increase the storage possibilities.

We have this awkward open space right next to the island that I think would be perfect for a shelving unit. Right now I have all of my nice dishes and serving platters on the little wooden shelving unit in the dining room but I would really love for that to just be for glassware. This shelving unit will be used for dishware, serving platters and anything else we need additional storage for!

I also need to majorly upgrade our dishtowel game. I had some cute ones out for Christmas but a bundled up penguin isn’t exactly evergreen.

MY BEDROOM

My bedroom is pretty much already complete, I just need to stop being lazy af and hang up the remaining art pieces I have stacked in a corner.

I really love my space not only because it’s huge (the closet space is a dream) but also because I feel like I did a really solid job of making sure it expressed my style. I love different shades of blue and wanted my room to have a bit of a bohemian touch while still feeling classic and glamorous.

I want to get a hanging rack to go over my hall closet door so I can take all of my crossbody bags off of my poor mannequin and hang them there. Other than that, I’m very pleased with my space!

MY BATHROOM

I love my little bathroom mostly because it’s all mine. I don’t think I would have wanted to move if I had to share one, to be honest. It’s a luxury I do not take for granted!

I would love to get some more art in here as well as some cute plants that do well with lots of light. There’s a great skylight that I plan on hanging some plants from!

All of the art that’s currently in here was made by my adorable parents so I love it!

I would LOVE any decorating suggestions in the comments below! I’ll definitely be sharing more posts as I complete each room.
