Let’s face it, Thanksgiving is a confusing holiday to dress for. Depending on your family and their traditions you might be expected to dress up and obviously we all want to look cute for the gram. But also, like, we need room for all the mashed potatoes, ya feel me?
You also are literally getting dressed up to go sit at your family’s kitchen table. A spot that has most likely, frequently seen you in sweatpants with toothpaste stains on your baggy t-shirt. But alas, this is just what we do.
Our outfits must be both flattering and, more importantly, able to withstand the inevitable food babies that will be growing from the minute we say “can you pass the gravy?”. This can be tricky and for those of you who still haven’t figured it out, I’m sharing three of my favorite Thanksgiving looks here to hopefully give you some inspiration. You may be able to find a lot of these items already sitting in your closet or if you want to wear any of these outfits another time shop all the looks at the bottom of the post!
THE LOOKS:
1. Fanciest
If you are trying to look cute af on Thanksgiving while still getting your eat on, this is the look for you. However, it does not come without a few risks.
If you’re like me and you attack your Thanksgiving plate like a starving hyena then this adorable cream-colored mock neck top might not be for you. However, if you can handle yourself like a civilized adult (or if your mom makes you do so) this top is super soft and comfy. Plus the subtle bell sleeve details give it a little extra something.
Pair it with a flattering burgundy glossy mini skirt that will do a fantastic job of holding in the bulge without making you look (and feel) like a sausage coming out of its casing (barf).
To emphasize the fall color palette and jazz up the plain solid top you can accessorize with a pretty statement necklace that in my opinion, is the epitome of Thanksgiving.
To tie the entire look together throw on some cozy knee high socks and my leopard booties. Not that you’ll probably even have shoes on for the majority of the evening, but ya know. Covering all your bases.
2. Fancier
If you’re trying to be a little dressed up without going all out, then the denim jumpsuit is your move. First of all, jumpsuits are incredibly comfy and allow for maximum crescent roll consumption. Second of all, they make you look like you put way more effort into your outfit than you actually did.
The downside, of course, is that if you’re going hard on the wine (duh) you may have a hard time getting in and out of it when nature calls but if you’re down to commit to this look it’s just part of the deal.
Wear the jumpsuit over a gorgeous lace top to stay warm and add some contrasting patterns and textures.
Finally, if it were me and because I am a pigmy I would throw on some tall brown wedges to pull the look together. If I actually wear this tomorrow I will obviously be bringing a pair of fuzzy socks to slip into as soon as I arrive at my aunt’s house.
3. Not fancy but comfy af
This seems like the most likely choice for me because I just am simply not messing around when it comes to Thanksgiving dinner. I am here to eat. That is all. I mean, also catch up with the fam, but eating is my number one priority always.
Pick out a comfy but appropriate (aka not see through) pair of leggings to wear under a super cozy sweater. This will 100% hide your food baby and will also still make you feel like you’re in the turkey day spirit!
To dress it up I’d probably wear some cute statement earrings with a top knot (does anyone else hate eating with their hair down?). I also foresee myself wrapped in a blanket at some point for my annual post-dinner coma nap on the couch. It’s a good lewk.
What is your favorite Thanksgiving dinner dish? Mine is mashed potatoes, hands down. Tell me in the comments!
