Okay, I was just not on the boyfriend jeans train. Maybe it’s my body type or my height but I just feel like I looked like I was drowning in them no matter how I styled them. I could just never seem to convey that the bagginess was a look, not a mistake. Enter the girlfriend jeans, bf jean’s more flattering counterpart. With a higher cut and straight leg silhouette, you can achieve that comfy/cool loose fitting vibe without looking like you need to make an exchange stat. I still was skeptical when trying on my newest pair and wasn’t sure how exactly I could pull it off. Being a shorty can make fun pant styles like wide leg and boot cut tricky to style. I decided to take a chance on them and I’m so glad that I did! Not only is this pair from Express (my go-to jean retailer) comfy af but they accentuate my waist and butt perfectly which I think is what really makes the difference. I styled them with my favorite brown strappy wedges to give the look some height which helped me avoid looking frumpy or swallowed up. I love the way a casual strappy sandal looks with cuffed jeans, it’s very summertime chic. If you follow me on Instagram (which you totally should! @shesmilesblog) then you may have noticed I love a good knotted tee moment. I love how soft this distressed white tee is (also Express!) and I knotted it in the front so I didn’t cover the top of the jeans. I didn’t want to cut myself off or look even shorter than I actually am so showing the jeans in their entirety was critical. Yes, I said critical. Fashion is life or death okay. #brutal Will I ever be over my blue Zara moto jacket or Rogue Coach bag? I think not! You know your girl loves a pop of blue. I especially love adding in different shades of blue with jeans. It feels very chic and monochromatic. Plus the different textures give the look a boho vibe that’s perfect for the summer! Shop the entire look at the bottom of the post! Definitely don’t be afraid to try new trends and play around with them before writing them off! Sometimes it just takes some experimentation and a few basics! What are your thoughts on the boyfriend/girlfriend jean situation? Tell me in the comments! Xo, She
