If you’re like me then you love diving into some good old fashioned motivational reading. I’m a big believer in living a life with positive intention. I meditate in the mornings, make vision boards and have a gratitude journal. To some that may seem really bizarre and like a waste of time but I think it has made me a more focused and content person overall. So anytime I hear about a great girl boss book I have to order it. I’m personally a huge fan of Audible and love listening to motivational books because it makes me feel even more inspired to take the advice given and make some changes. I love anything that has to do with female empowerment and feeling confident in your own abilities as a woman. Obviously if you haven’t read the OG then you should definitely pick up #GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso (goals forever). If you read it and loved it then check out my top 5 girl boss books that will also leave you feeling uber inspired.
1. You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero
I downloaded this book on Audible and I have to say listening to it is so much better. Jen Sincero read the book herself and you can honestly feel the truths behind her words that much more because of it. Her book is all about choosing to live the life of your dreams. She talks a lot about how we take preconceived notions about how we think aspects of our lives are suppose to be and let them rule our worlds. This type of thinking prevents us from being brave and chasing after the type of lives we’ve always dreamed of. Sincero is not some self righteous self-help enthusiast who will hurt your ears with too many warm and fuzzy inspirational quotes. She’s real and honest throughout each chapter and relates these mental barriers we all have to herself frequently which makes you feel like you’re hanging out with a real person and not some cheesy infomercial. My favorite part of the book is how she focuses on shifting your mindset to one of gratitude and appreciation. Not only does her book teach you how to go after your dreams, it teaches you how to be a happier and more fulfilled you.

2. Girl Code by Cara Alwill Leyba
Cara Alwill Leyba is a blogger turned author who promotes female empowerment, positivity and collaboration. She has several awesome books but Girl Code is special to me because it’s for female entrepreneurs who are navigating the business world. Leyba writes about the importance of celebrating and appreciating other women when you’re on the path to creating your own business. I loved her message and how she not only gives you amazing advice on how to advance your career but how to do it in a way that feels authentic. Her commentary on today’s societal norm of women competing against each other is so spot on and I love how she interviewed so many amazing female entrepreneurs for this book and truly made it a collaborative effort. If you want to learn how to be a girl boss in a way that celebrates women then this is the book for you.

3. Capture Your Style by Aimee Song
This book was in my March favorites post for a reason. If you love following fashion bloggers on Instagram then chances are Aimee Song is one of your favorites. In her book all about Instagram mastery and story tellings through imagery she lets you into her life in a way that feels like the ultimate behind the scenes sneak peak. Aimee has an amazing knack for capturing moments beautifully and posting beautiful pictures on Instagram that are not only pretty to look at but are also a window into her day to day life. While she certainly has mastered the flat lay, its her capturing of life’s little moments that makes her relatable and authentic. This book is a great resource for aspiring bloggers but a fun insider’s guide for anyone who is a fan of Aimee and her work.

4. Leave Your Mark by Aliza Licht
If you’re a fan of The Devil Wears Prada (aka if you’ve seen it and are breathing) then you will love this book about Licht’s career in fashion PR. She hands out amazing career advice with more than a fair share of sass that keeps you laughing throughout the entire book. This is another book that I opted to listen to on Audible and I loved it. I listened to it every morning while I did my makeup and it felt so good to start my day with some killer advice and funny anecdotes. Licht uses her own career as a blueprint for what to do and what to avoid while also clueing the reader into what she looks for in an employee. She also tells her story as DKNY PR Girl and how she is still killing the social media game. If you’re hoping to break into the fashion industry this is a must read.

5. Rich Bitch by Nicole Lapin
Maybe I’m alone in this, but I think self-help books that curse at you are the most effective. There’s just something so real and entertaining about it. I love how Nicole Lapin uses her actual voice to make something as daunting and boring as finance feel funny and conversational. I also listened to this book on Audible. Once again, I loved the experience of hearing her voice and personally felt like I retained the information better than I would have just by reading it. Lapin lays out 12 specific steps that will help you get on track financially without feeling like you’re stuck in a deep dark hole of despair. After listening to her book I felt motivated and equipped with the systems and tools I needed to re-evaluate my personal finances with confidence. It’s hard to understand what the right choices are and Lapin does an amazing job explaining every term and concept in a way that’s easy to understand and relevant to your life. If you’re looking to make some changes financially but just don’t know where to start then you’ll love this guide.
