We can’t all be good at everything. As someone who lives with supreme confidence and thinks very highly of herself, even I can admit that. While I tend to focus on my positive qualities and talents, one thing I pride myself on most is my self awareness. Meaning while I believe in myself and my capabilities, I’m also really acutely aware of the things I suck at. This includes everything beauty and fashion related. Because it’s hard to be the expert. It takes a lot of time and patience to learn a new skill or craft and even after years of studying new trends and techniques there are a few things I still can’t quite get the hang of. Here are five of the worst:
1. Heels (aka my worst enemy)
God they’re cute. As a short girl this is especially tragic as heels not only make for a great fashion statement, but legitimately are useful for someone like me who has issues reaching the highest shelf at the grocery store (there’s only so many times you can ask someone for help before you start feeling like inadequate adult). I tell people all the time that I’m not a “shoe girl” but the reality is I would love to join that club but I just can’t commit to curating a giant shoe collection when I can’t wear half of them! I have a small collection of heels that I like to stare at longingly but they do not make it out of my bedroom often. They kill my feet and I can barely walk. I can get away with some comfortable booties with a little height, but that’s about all my clumsy self can handle.
2. Maintaing healthy and attractive nails
Nails are SO high maintenance. Honestly, the upkeep is just too much. I get them done maybe once a month and when I do I get gel because I’m not about to spend $20 for my nails to chip two days later. I have a huge nail polish collection and a ton of cool nail art tools but for some reason I just can’t motivate myself to keep them looking good. Probably because it’s just too heartbreaking to spend an hour and a half giving yourself the most bomb manicure of all time…just to see it chip the next day. The time it takes is just not worth it to me so you’ll often see my tiny baby hands with little naked nails that could really use some cuticle oil. What can I say? I’m a sexy lady.
3. Keeping my hairline/scalp moisturized
Ew, this one is gross. I’m sure some of you (I hope) have experienced some dryness around your hairline due to makeup build up or simply too many drying products in that area. Basically you get some nasty crusties and you feel like a dirty little rodent who shouldn’t be let outside. No, that’s just me? My bad. But really, I HATE it. I use dry shampoo every other day when I’m in between washes which also dries out my scalp. I combat this issue with hair masks and hair oils that penetrate the skin and keep your scalp healthy and well balanced. However, my problem is I get lazy and forget which leaves me with my crusty scalp hating life. It’s my own fault. Gross.
4. The under eye smudgies
You know what I’m talking about girl. Your eyeliner starts to run and boom, you go from cover girl to raccoon eyes in no time at all. There are several factors that can cause this but one of the main ones is not using the right liner. I don’t use liner in my water line, but I do like to use it in my tight line and if I don’t use the right one my eye makeup will be a mess in no time. I try to make sure I gravitate towards more high end options as those are the ones that don’t tend to bleed as much. The Urban Decay eye liners are my personal favorite. If you know of any less expensive, drug store options please let me know!
5. Even Liquid Liner
Finally, the age old question: is my liquid liner even? No ma’am, no it is not. I have really struggled with this dilemma for years and ultimately my final decision was to just not wear it. You’ll probably notice in most of my pictures I am not wearing any liquid liner at all. One reason is that I have small lids and find it frustrating that I can create this dope look only to cover it up with liquid liner afterwards. But the main reason is that I am just too much of a perfectionist and liquid liner will RUIN my entire day if it’s not even. I once got into a huge fight with an ex boyfriend because my attitude was so nasty after I got frustrated with my asymmetrical eye makeup (seems legit to me, but whatever). That’s not cute. So now I just save it for special occasions when I really think it will complete my look. And on those occasions I spend 15 minutes making it perfect. Nbd.
Of course there are several other beauty and fashion related things that I suck at, but those are the main five that really get my goat. What are yours?

She

Omg that was so relatable!! I literally relate to every single one, especially the high heels.
